Anatomy Module with Vicky Fox

“Often in anatomy we break down the body into little parts. We’ll be looking at the feet, we’ll be looking at the calves, and working our way through the body and looking at the deeper muscles, the more superficial muscles … and then actually we have to remember that the body works as one big whole unit and is completely connected through connective tissue so [in yoga anatomy] we break it all down and then we put it all back together! And we work out how does it all relate and how does it show up in yoga class?” — Vicky Fox

Yoga Anatomy (with ) is an integral part of our 200-hour training. A prime motivation to study anatomy in the context of yoga is to better understand what’s inside of us so we can understand why some things are relatively easy to change, and some things less so. As Leslie Kaminoff writes, “The deepest principles of yoga are based on a subtle and profound appreciation if how the human system is constructed. The subject of yoga is the self, and the self is an attribute of the physical body.”
